PETALING JAYA: Umno supreme council member Datuk Dr Mohd Puad Zarkashi has thrown his support to the resolution by Pagoh Umno division to field candidates under the Pagoh parliamentary and state seats for the next general election.
In a Facebook post Sunday (Jan 3), Mohd Puad congratulated Pagoh Umno for making its stand, adding that a formal motion will be submitted by the division to the supreme council.
“As a member of the party supreme council, I strongly support Pagoh Umno’s stand to field an Umno candidate to contest the parliamentary and state seats in the Pagoh constituency,” he said.
On Saturday (Jan 2), Datuk Seri Adham Baba said Umno should allow Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to defend his Pagoh parliamentary seat in the 15th General Election.
Adham, who is also the Tenggara Umno division chief, said that Muhyiddin, who is Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia president, has been the Pagoh MP for the past seven terms.
It was reported that Pulai Umno became the first division in the country to pass a resolution asking party leaders to quit the Perikatan Nasional government immediately to force a snap election.
Its head Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed said the delegates at the annual general meeting on Friday (Jan 1) had unanimously decided that it would be in the best interest of Umno and its reputation to leave the ruling coalition.
