JOHOR BARU: Johor Ruler Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar has expressed his disappointment over the attitude of some people in Mersing for failing to keep the district clean.
Sultan Ibrahim said that Mersing, which is a tourist destination, does not only attract visitors from abroad but is also a district that is rich in natural beauty.
He stressed that if such attitude continues, it would also have a negative impact on public health.
“I am very sad to see what I have saw in some of areas visited. What has happened to Mersing? It should be a tourist spot but when tourists arrive, they are greeted with rubbish.
“Aren’t we ashamed if we invite people to our own house but the situation is not pleasing to the eye? Change your behavior and get rid of the filthy attitude,” he said on his Facebook page on Tuesday (Dec 29).
He added that Mersing should emulate Muar when it received the title of the Cleanest Asean Tourism City in 2018.
“Mersing has great potential for further development in the eco-tourism sector and it is also the main gateway to the surrounding tourist islands.
“I have many ideas to attract investment and progress for the sector in Mersing, but the people also need to play a role in maintaining cleanliness here. No one wants to visit a dirty place, ” he said.
He also urged local authorities to enforce compounds effectively so that the people are more disciplined.
